The people behind the BYP
The Trustees and members of our Management Group volunteer time and expertise to steer the development of BYP, helping it to survive and thrive for the young people in and around Ashburton. This includes fundraising and recruitment of a core team of part-time paid staff comprised of youth workers and an administrator.
Adult session volunteers and an evolving group of senior helpers from the older membership help to run sessions and activities with supervision and support from the trained youth work team.
Donors, community organisations and individuals contribute funds, goods, skills, collaboration and feedback
Would you like to join the BYP team as a youth worker, session volunteer, trustee, donor – or by contributing specific skills, materials or equipment?

Funding & Finance information
HOW IS BYP FINANCED?
As a registered charity, BYP relies for all its funding upon donations and grants from individuals and from local, regional and national funding bodies. In August 2019, BYP was awarded a five-year grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.
WHAT DO WE NEED FUNDING FOR?
The building, the programme and the staff. We own the building and have to maintain it and pay the running costs. The centre needs furniture and equipment to be able to run an activity-based programme for young people. We also need finance to organise trips and outdoor activities, and we need to pay our part-time staff.
Money that has been raised has enabled us to improve our heating system and hot water supply, buy an air hockey table and other equipment, buy art supplies, pay for summer private pool parties at the Ashburton Swimming Pool, and re-design our outdoor courtyard.
We are able to rent out BYP premises for use by other groups when it is not being used for our activities.
We are still hoping to recruit more volunteer helpers.
We shall continue to explore other ways of generating additional income.
