Shallowford Farm Trip

Apr 11, 2025 | News

In February, a small group of young people from BYP visited Shallowford Farm on Dartmoor for a residential weekend of adventure and learning. The trip exceeded expectations and the group participated in a range of activities such as a treasure hunt, a 3-hour hike across Dartmoor, and feeding and cleaning out the pigs, even witnessing the birth of piglets. They also enjoyed a night walk, stargazing and reflecting on their experience. The second day included feeding the pigs again, visiting a local dairy farm, and engaging in a fun race to feed the cows….lots of new experiences!

The trip provided a chance to learn about food sustainability, recycling, and farming and gave
the young people a chance to form many new memories. While we didn’t make it for lambing season this year we hope to continue this relationship with Shallowford farm to give our young people the chance to experience trips like these again in the future!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ashburton WI for making BYP their chosen charity last year, resulting in their recent very generous donation. This extra funding makes special events such as our Shallowford Farm trip possible, enabling our young people to have truly enriching experiences and grow. We are very grateful for your continued commitment to our youth and their development.
