Cafe by Day…

The Bank Youth Project warmly welcomes the Ashburton Cafe@BYP in a new collaboration. So now you may see a Cafe by day, while we remain, above all, a space for young people in the evenings.

Jason and Lisa Gee, who formerly ran the Bay Horse in Ashburton, are leasing our space to offer a varied and great value menu for breakfast, lunch, drinks, cakes and snacks from 8.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Saturday. The regular rental income makes a valued consistent contribution to keeping BYP open in the evenings for the young people around Ashburton. Evening cooking sessions for young people and other collaborations are also in the plan.

The Bank Youth Project is very grateful for the support it has had over the last five years from a National Lottery Community Fund Grant (2019-2024), which has also supported us to look for other income sources. One of BYP’s aims has been to broaden our income support and still keep BYP open and accessible for all our local young people. Right now, membership is still free – with per session cost still a nominal 50p.

The bulk of our funding will still need to come from grants and donations, but we are pleased to be broadening our means of support to help meet rising costs, and happy that more people in the community, when they visit the cafe, will have the chance to see a bit of what we offer young people at BYP.
